Namecheap Web Hosting Provider

Namecheap Web Hosting

Namecheap was founded in 2000 as a low-cost alternative for domain registrations. As web hosting become an increasingly profitable industry, Namecheap has developed a web hosting offering similar to many of the other popular web hosts. Namecheap has traditionally targeted lower-budget web publishers who need affordable web hosting, but now provides higher performance, higher cost web hosting products such as VPS and dedicated servers.

Namecheap manages over 11 million domains, but the majority of those are domain purchasers. They have over 3 million clients who use one or more of the spectrum of web hosting available from Namecheap.

Namecheap is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona and has over 1,000 employees.

Namecheap Product Offering

Namecheap offers all of the standard web hosting products similar to many of its competitors, including:

The video review of Namecheap below reviews the various plans available from Namecheap. It also highlights some of the important features of Namecheap plans and pricing.

Namecheap Hosting Plans and Pricing

Namecheap offers the standard shared hosting plans, VPS hosting, and dedicated servers. They also have specific plans for WordPress hosting.

Namecheap also has hosting plans for people who intend to resell hosting to their own clients and who need a stable and affordable hosting provider to support their clientele.

Namecheap web hosting is true to the company’s name and brand. Namecheap is one of the cheapest, most affordable web hosting companies available. Their plans are priced well enough below most competitors that, for those starting out with a business idea or who for other reasons don’t have much funding for hosting, they are attractive to the budget-conscious, even though there are some trade-offs, including a lower level of support than other web hosts provide.

Similar to many other hosts, Namecheap’s pricing changes based upon the amount of time you pay for in advance. Monthly, annual, and 2-year payment plans are available, with the monthly plans being the most expensive per month, and the 2-year plans costing the least per month.

Namecheap Shared Web Hosting Pricing

Namecheap’s shared web hosting plans start at just $1.58 per month (their basic Stellar plan) for those willing to pay for 2 years of hosting up front. The same plan paid for on a  monthly basis is still only $3.88 per month.

Namecheap offers two other, higher-grade shared web hosting plans, including Stellar Plus ($2.68 per month when 2 years worth are paid in advance; $5.88 per month if paid for on a month-to-month basis) and Stellar Business, which costs $4.68 per month for the two-year option and $9.88 per month for the monthly payment option.

Namecheap VPS Hosting Pricing

Similar to how it prices shared hosting, Namecheap’s VPS hosting prices are cheaper if paid for yearly versus monthly. The basic Namecheap VPS plan starts at $9.88 per month, which is about the same as many web hosts shared hosting plans. Their upgraded VPS plan costs $17.88 per month if paid for yearly.

Namecheap Dedicated Server Plans and Pricing

Namecheap has high-performance dedicated server plans that start as low as $55.99 for the basic dedicated server plan paid annually in advance. That is a substantial discount from most other web hosts who offer dedicate server hosting, many of whom start their plans at $100 per month or more.

Namecheap Data Center Locations

Namecheap has data centers in the United States as well as in Europe.

Namecheap US data center: Phoenix Arizona

Namecheap European data centers:

  • Nottingham, UK
  • Amsterdam, Netherlands

Having data centers in the United States and in Europe allows Namecheap to provide more efficient traffic speeds in both of those geographies.

If you need a host with multiple data centers in the United States (such as in the central or eastern parts of the country) or in Asia, you’ll have to use a different host.

Namecheap Customer Support

In order for Namecheap to be so competitively priced, there has to be somewhere that they cut costs.

Customer support is the main area where Namecheap lags behind its higher-priced web hosting competitors. Namecheap does not offer (at least publicly; there’s no telephone number published on its website) customer support by telephone. Namecheap’s chat support is active 24 hours a day, and their support is rated highly. In fact, the users of Trustpilot give Namecheap a 4.4/5 rating based upon over 8,500 reviews.
